Sauli Niinisto, the President of the Republic of Finland, opens the World Juniors, kicking off on Boxing Day, 26th December.

The opening ceremonies will be held in Hartwall Arena before the evening game between Finland and Belarus. Niinisto will give his opening speech at the end of the ceremonies, before national anthems.

Four games are played on the first day of the World Juniors. At Hartwall Arena, shortly after the game between the Czech Republic and Russia will be over, the national team jerseys of Saku Koivu, Jere Lehtinen and Ville Peltonen will be retired.

The opening ceremonies, in turn, will begin just before the face-off of Finland and Belarus.

At Helsinki Ice Hall Switzerland will face Sweden in the afternoon and the evening game will be played between Team USA and Canada.
