World Juniors host Helsinki offers tourists a lot to see and experience.

The 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship games begin on Boxing Day, 26th December, and will take over Helsinki, the capital of Finland, for 10 days. But in addition to ice hockey, there is plenty to see and do between Christmas and the 5th January, the final day of the World Juniors. Spare time can be spent admiring art, enjoying culture or watching sports. There’s certainly something for everyone.

“Joulumaailma” is an authentic Christmas Market in the heart of the city. In “Kolmen Sepän aukio”, a square next to the Stockmann department store, one can enjoy all kind of performances spiced up with Christmas spirit and merry atmosphere. In beautiful sales cottages you’ll find the favourite tastes of Christmas and delicious, sweet goodies.

“Tuomaan Markkinat”, a true Finnish Christmas Market, takes place at Senaatintori and there you can find both traditional and modern gifts to take home. Joulutori, another traditional Christmas Market, is held at “Vanha Ylioppilastalo” and there you’ll discover the uniqueness of Finnish handicrafts and design.

Senaatintori will once again host the celebrations on New Year’s Eve. Finnish National Ballet will take over the stage with a performance that is likely to leave you breathless, Finnish artist Maija Vilkkumaa will keep the audience entertained and the night will be sealed with a music & fireworks show designed by JoHo Pyro after which the dancing still continues till 00.30.

More information about performances, exhibitions and hours of operation you can find from the websites of each event or venue. All the events are listed at the Visit Helsinki website: www.visithelsinki.fi.
